Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts Announces 2025–26 Season Lineup

at ϱ has announced its lineup of performances and museum exhibitions for the 2025–26 season, which will run from August 2025 to April 2026. The program’s catalog features 26 professional presentations as well as an array of student productions in opera, dance, theatre, and music.
“We are pleased to share this innovative, unique, entertaining, and diverse program of exceptional performances and museum exhibitions,” says Rebecca Carson, managing director for the Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts. “The Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts is proud to be a place where people from Malibu, as well as Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, can gather in community to be inspired by the arts, contemplating matters in a new way with a sense of wonder.”
Charo
Highlights of the season include Charo, the flamenco guitar virtuosa known for her classical mastery, pop culture presence, and signature humor; Jake Shimabukuro, whose genre-bending compositions elevate standards of ukulele musicianship; Sounds of Laurel Canyon: A Back to the Garden Story Concert, a nostalgic tribute to the music and spirit of 1960s and ’70s Laurel Canyon; and Colin Hay, the frontman of the iconic Australian pop-rock band Men at Work. Audiences will also experience live performances by Ailey II, the internationally acclaimed modern dance company recognized for its emotional depth and technical excellence; Cirque Mechanics: Tilt!, a high-energy blend of acrobatics and storytelling; and Les Ballets Africains, the acclaimed national dance company of the Republic of Guinea.
Sounds of Laurel Canyon: A Back to the Garden Story Concert
Held in Pepperdine’s Raitt Recital Hall throughout the season, featured classical music performers include violinist Adé Williams, saxophonist Valentin Kovalev, pianist Janice Carissa, and cellist Leland Ko.
Presented by the students of the , The Good War—a newly adapted musical based on Studs Terkel’s Pulitzer Prize-winning oral history of World War II—will premier on Veterans Day as tribute to those who served our country. Additional theatre productions include Bright Star, a sweeping Broadway musical of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s; the US premiere of no one is coming to save us, a play direct from the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe about confronting environmental crisis with fragile hope; and The Light in the Piazza, the annual Luciana and Daniel Forge Musical, which explores the layered emotions of love, loss, and family.
The will present Speed Dating Tonight!, which explores the personalities, motivations, and histories of a group of strangers gathered in search of a romantic spark in a contrived setting. Student Activities will also present the annual Dance in Flight, showcasing original choreography by student dancers. Additional performances throughout the season will feature the . Renowned guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening will return to lead two master classes in Raitt Recital Hall.
At the the season-long visual art presentation Hold My Hand in Yours will be on display from September 6, 2025 to March 29, 2026, featuring sculpture, painting, performance, and video that spotlight the symbolic significance of the human hand in artistic expression. Participating artists include Christine Mitchell Adams, Kelly Akashi, Carmen Argote, Karl Haendel, Christine Sun Kim and Thomas Mader, Elana Mann and Sharon Chohi Kim, Joetta Maue, Roksana Pirouzmand, Yvonne Rainer, Samantha Roth, and Lauren Seiden.
